K Marie’s Pizzeria in Downtown Madelia opened on January 1, 2024, intending to serve Minnesotans an authentic taste of Italy. K Marie’s Pizzeria offers foodies additional options to satisfy their cravings and families a quaint place to bond. 

The Dream Becomes Reality

While attending South Dakota State University as a double major in Public Relations and Communication Studies, Madelia-native, Katie Sorenson wanted more after graduation. She wanted to invest in her hometown as well as help it grow. 

In 2023, Sorenson saw an opportunity to make her dream a reality and fill a pizza-void in Madelia. K Marie’s Pizzeria is located at 21 Center Ave. North, 56062. 

K Marie’s Pizzeria pizzas are made from scratch, daily, with a mix of fresh and canned ingredients. Many of Sorenson’s vendors are within Minnesota to ensure freshness and strengthen the community dollar through recycled funds.

The Importance of Support

Sorenson is beyond grateful and appreciative for the support she’s received. In her words, “With having a business in a small town, community support makes a huge difference. When looking at the support received, I have truly been blown away! I have been supported, not only by my family but the town as a whole. The connections and support from MARC have been fantastic!”

Because of the support, K Marie’s Pizzeria has expanded its menu options within four months of being in business. When it opened, the offerings were garlic bread, cheese bread, and eight specialty pizzas with three types of crust and four sizes. Now, still offering the original menu, customers can choose between:

• Boneless & Traditional Wings (Buffalo, BBQ, Sweet Chili, or Garlic Parmesan)
• Stuffed Crust
• Chicken Alfredo Pizza
• Cheeseburger Pizza 
• Margherita Pizza

And the expansion continues. As of April, K Marie’s Pizzeria was hiring for employees. This is the type of community building and economic empowerment Sorenson envisioned when she wanted to help her hometown grow. To see it come to fruition leaves Sorenson speechless and determined to do more every day.
