Madelia’s Outdoor Spaces and Indoor Places for an Active Lifestyle
July 26, 2023
As we end another festive July, we would be remiss if we did not send a big thank you to the park and recreation professionals that keep Madelia’s outdoor spaces and indoor places clean, safe, and desirable. July is National Park and Recreation Month and this year’s theme is Where Community Grows, focusing on the vital role park and recreation professionals play in the unity and growth of Madelia. We see you, we appreciate you, and we thank you for the positive impact you make on the daily lives of Madelia residents and visitors!
Get Active!
Being the Pride of the Prairie, Madelia has outdoor spaces and indoor places for active enthusiasts to embrace. No matter your choice of physical activity, you can do it in Madelia. Below is the complete list of Madelia’s park and recreational facilities to enjoy.
Anytime Fitness of Madelia
Anytime Fitness of Madelia offers a joint-effort approach to help you meet your fitness goals. The website states, “... the support is real and it starts the moment we meet.” Anytime Fitness offers all gym amenities, training and coaching options, and a customized workout plan. One main membership benefit is 24-7 secured access that can help with those sleepless nights or early morning workouts to get your day started.
Lake Crystal Area Recreation Center
Lake Crystal Area Recreation Center is a family-oriented facility whose mission, as stated on the website, is to “encourage people of all ages to improve their health and physical fitness through the use and enjoyment of a variety of recreational activities.” Lake Crystal offers a full gym, basketball/volleyball courts, an elevated walking track, and a 6-lane swimming pool.
Madelia Campground at Watona Park
Madelia Campground at Watona Park offers spectacular views of the Watonwan River with 74 RV campsites, showers, wifi, and indoor/outdoor shelters. Because it’s located inside Watona Park, you also have access to all Watona Park has to offer. If you desire a nomad-type vacation, Madelia Campground is the perfect place. Campground season is from May through October.
Watona Park
Watona Park is the city park in Madelia, complete with a flower garden, baseball and softball diamonds, disc golf course, soccer field, playground, and picnic shelters available to rent. In the winter, the park is used for cross-country skiing and snowmobile fun.
Madelia Golf Course
Madelia Golf Course is a 9-hole golf course with the entrance being the same as Watona Park. Its Clubhouse offers a full-service bar and menu, so outside food and drinks are not permitted. The season begins in May and runs through October. A valid driver’s license is required for cart rentals.
Madelia Lanes
Madelia Lanes is “Your Family Food and Fun Center.” It is the city’s 8-lane bowling alley with a full-size pool table, indoor party space, and offers specialty menu nights. It is your one-stop of indoor fun for all ages. During bowling season (September - November), hours are adjusted to accommodate the leagues. You can view pictures on the Facebook page.
Madelia Swimming Pool and Water Slide
Madelia Swimming Pool and Water Slide is steps away from Watona Park. This facility houses a large water slide, a toddler wading pool, and an Olympic-size pool with a diving board. Madelia Swimming Pool and Water Slide offers seasonal passes, swimming lessons, daily summer swimming, moonlight summer swimming, and pool rentals for private swimming parties. No outside food or drinks are allowed.
Mankato Ballet Company
Mankato Ballet Company is “one of the leading schools of ballet instruction in Minnesota.” While Mankato’s primary style of teaching is ballet, students have the option of learning modern, tap, and jazz dance. Ages preschool to adult, Mankato Balley Company has teachers and classes available to help improve posture, coordination, flexibility, self-confidence, and poise.
The end of July doesn’t stop Madelia’s outdoor events. The next outdoor event is Madelia Area Chamber Golf Scramble Fundraiser and Ball Drop on Tuesday, August 8, 2023. The Chamber puts on this annual event to help support and fund many of the Chamber’s Park Days activities the following year. This is a great opportunity for a quick Madelia visit.
Madelia Needs Developers
Madelia is a telecommuter-forward city attracting remote workers and entrepreneurs. With the low cost of doing business, low cost of living, excellent schools, and close proximity to larger cities, Madelia is an attractive place and the demand to relocate is growing fast. Madelia is in need of developers. Contact Madelia Area Redevelopment Corporation (MARC). A conversation today can be the start of a new beginning.
